My Review

Published Del Rey on April 26, 2016

Goodreads Rating: 3.84

A girl named Rose is riding her new bike near her home in Deadwood, South Dakota, when she falls through the earth. She wakes up at the bottom of a square hole, its walls glowing with intricate carvings. But the firemen who come to save her peer down upon something even stranger: a little girl in the palm of a giant metal hand.

Seventeen years later, the mystery of the bizarre artifact remains unsolved—its origins, architects, and purpose unknown. Its carbon dating defies belief; military reports are redacted; theories are floated, then rejected.

But some can never stop searching for answers.

Rose Franklin is now a highly trained physicist leading a top-secret team to crack the hand’s code. And along with her colleagues, she is being interviewed by a nameless interrogator whose power and purview are as enigmatic as the provenance of the relic. What’s clear is that Rose and her compatriots are on the edge of unraveling history’s most perplexing discovery—and figuring out what it portends for humanity. But once the pieces of the puzzle are in place, will the result prove to be an instrument of lasting peace or a weapon of mass destruction?

This book was so good!! I can’t even describe how good it was, especially the audiobook. Listening to it was a whole experience. And book two, Waking Gods, is even better!!

Sleeping Giants is for anyone who loves sci-fi, action, political drama, and aliens. It’s being described as a mix between World War Z, and The Martian. Although I’m not sure how accurate those comparisons are, I guarantee that you will definitely like this one.

It’s told in a series of interviews, transcripts and audio logs that are being kept by a mysterious interviewer in what he calls The Themis Files. Basically, that means that the book is all dialogue which is why I recommend the audiobook since it has a full cast and each of the readers is absolutely amazing. I don’t anyone that listens to the audiobook can dislike the masterpiece that Sylvain Neuvel has created. The people I know that did not like it had a problem with the format, so again, I say, go for the audiobook. I promise you will love it!!

Also, I’m posting my review for the sequel up in a few days, so be on the lookout for that if you are interested in this series!

17926775“For five centuries, a witch’s curse has bound the trolls to their city beneath the mountain. When Cécile de Troyes is kidnapped and taken beneath the mountain, she realizes that the trolls are relying on her to break the curse.

Cécile has only one thing on her mind: escape. But the trolls are clever, fast, and inhumanly strong. She will have to bide her time.

But the more time she spends with the trolls, the more she understands their plight. There is a rebellion brewing. And she just might be the one the trolls were looking for.”

Book Recommendation!

I, like you, read a lot of books. A lot of those books are popular and well known, but some of them are obscure and no one talks about them, despite you thinking they are amazing! Every once in a while, when I read one of those obscurely wonderful books, I will be recommending them to you all, so you too may have the chance at loving them.

This week I am recommending none other than… *drum roll*

Furiously Happy

This book made me laugh, a thing that I love. But more than that, this book made me think, which I love even more.

This, as the subtitle implies, is a funny book about horrible things. It is about depression and anxiety and the struggles of living with those and many other mental and physical problems. This is a book about how to deal with life when you are your own worst enemy, and how to get through it all with a smile on your face and positive outlook on life. Continue reading “Furiously Happy”
