This or That – Book Covers #5

Not all book covers are created equal. Some are good, some are bad, some are downright ugly. But, alas, we the readers have no say in the makings of such things. Luckily for us, many books have different editions for us to choose from. The question is, which is better?

Leigh Bardugo Book Signing!

It is no secret that Leigh Bardugo has come out with a new book, The Language of Thorns, and that it is absolutely beautiful. I mean, look at it! It’s beautiful both covered and naked!

This book was released on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, and already people are raving. So, it is with great pride that I say that today, Thursday 28, 2017 (by the time I publish this it would have been yesterday), I got to meet Leigh Bardugo for the second time and get my copy of the novel signed.

The event was extremely crowded, close to two hundred people were there, and I have never been so happy. A few years ago, when Six of Crows first came out, there were less than half of those people at Leigh signing. This time around, it was so crowded that I had to stand in the back because they had run out of seats.

And yes, I was a little bitter to be standing, but I was also so happy because Leigh definitely deserves all of her fans and all of the people that were so eager to meet her.

Just as before, Leigh was super friendly and funny, and I loved hearing her talk. When the signing began, and I went up to her, I told her how I had told everyone I knew to read Six of Crows. My friend, who I converted to the fandom, went with me as well. We took pictures, and Leigh signed our books. In the end, she thanked me for being a book pusher and getting people to read her books. It was absolutely wonderful.

All in all, I had a wonderful time and just wanted to share it with you all.

Pretty on the Outside, Bitter on the Inside

Bad Books With Pretty Covers

We in the bookish community love to lie to ourselves. We like to pretend that it’s only what’s on the inside that counts. And while this is a nice sentiment and whatnot, a pretty little quote to put on t-shirts and mugs and stuff, it’s not always true when it comes to books. We love to judge book covers, it’s in our nature. Sure, the inside matters, as we are about to see, but let’s be honest with ourselves, our bookshelves are all about the aesthetic. At least, mine are. I am not ashamed to say that put all the ugly books in the back (sorry, not sorry)

So, without further ado, I am going to list a couple of extremely beautiful books. Book’s that would make my shelves shine. Books that I have read, and even bought, solely for the aesthetic of their covers.

Books whose deceitful covers have filled me with regret after reading.

Here we go.

Dreamy Book Covers Tag!!

Hello! I have been tagged! I actually have been tagged and nominated for so many things lately and I have been terrible at keeping up. This week I am making it my goal to catch up on all of them, starting with this one.

I was tagged for this by the wonderful Mandy @Book Princess. Thank you so much, Mandy! This is such a fun tag, created by the ever-awesome Tiana @The Book Raven. Both of these girls have pretty amazing blogs that I suggest you check out! Seriously, they are awesome.

Anyway, to the tag! I am very excited to get to it. I love book covers and such. This is the Book Cover Girls after all. So, without further ado, let’s do this thing!

Best Covers of 2016

Every day this week I will be going through lists of my favorite, and least favorite, things this year. To start it off I am going through my favorite book covers of 2016. These are the covers that caught my eye and filled my mind with wonder, regardless of what lay inside. As we are The Book Cover Girls, we are judging this based solely on covers, whether or not we liked the book. These covers are not necessarily for books that were released in 2016, but rather, books that I read in 2016. Continue reading “Best Covers of 2016”

Cover Changes Done Right

If anyone is like me, you like having matching covers. I am the type of person who will go out of my way to have matching cover editions and formats (hardcover, paperback, etc.). Whenever a book cover changes its cover design I die a little on the inside as the knowledge that I will not have a matching set settles over me. Other times, such as these, I rejoice because let’s be honest, there are some great books with some seriously hideous covers out there. These are cover changes done right.  Continue reading “Cover Changes Done Right”
