The 20 Question Tag!!

What’s up Y’all! Happy Friday! I’ve been tagged! Thank you so much to Sarah @The Cleaver Reader for tagging me to do this one!

It’s been a weird week and I feel like I haven’t actually posted anything, despite the fact that I’ve totally posted every single day this week. I don’t even know how to describe it. I feel like just yesterday it was Monday and now here we are.

But, whatever, on to this.

If you guys haven’t checked out Sarah’s blog, I recommend you to do so! She’s super cool and her blog is super fun! Also, she as kind enough to tag me and it was super fun to do so thanks again!

As for the million other tags and awards I’ve been tagged for, I’ll get to them soon! I promise!

But for now, let’s enjoy the 20 Question Tag!

1. How many books are too many books in a book series?

I’m going to steal Sarah’s answer and say 7. I feel like there are a lot of good series of 7 books. 8 at most.  Whenever I see a series will go on forever I’m less tempted to read it. I just start thinking of all the time I’m going to have to devote to it and I have no time to spare in my busy life.

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

I actually don’t mind them all that much. It definitely depends though. If I can see that the author is making a cliffhanger for the sake of having a cliffhanger then I tend to be more bothered by it. If it’s a clear end to a book and it just so happen to end with a mystery or a cliffhanger then I’m all for it.

3. Hardback or paperback?

Tough question. I personally prefer owning hardbacks because they look nicer on the shelf, I think. But honestly, there’s nothing like reading a good paperback. I think they are better to hold and carry. Overall, I like them both.

4. Favorite book?

I always hate this question. How do you expect me to choose??

But, if I do have to pick one amongst my children, I might say Wuthering Heights. Either that or Twilight. As you can see, I swing very easily to either side of the spectrum. Also, before you judge me, I know all of Twilight’s flaws. I know it’s not exactly high literature, but I love it! It was the book that got me into reading and I’ve read the whole series like five times and have enjoyed it each time!

5. Least favorite book?

I honestly don’t know. I jokingly want to say The Fault in our Stars, if only because I can’t go too long without hating on it, but that’s not true. Probably Life and Death by Stephenie Meyer. You know, that gender-swapped Twilight retelling. Yeah, that wasn’t good. In fact, it was absolutely horrible.

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

Generally no. I’ve yet to read a love triangle that I enjoyed (Twilight aside).

Ok, but seriously now. Love triangles are kinda dumb, especially when they take away from the plot of the book. Unless, of course, the entire plot of your book is a love triangle.

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

I don’t like leaving books unfinished but there have been a few in my lifetime that I haven’t actually gone through with. The latest one was  Geekerella by Ashley Poston. I know that a lot of people love it, but I read like the first 90 or so pages and I was pretty bored so I quit. I was planning on going back to it but then I read Poston’s other book, Heart of Iron, and didn’t really like it so I guess I’m not going back.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

So far it’s ok. I’m liking it, but not exactly loving it the way I thought I would. Then again, I’m only like 20% into the novel so who knows what will happen.

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel.

It’s soooo good! Go read it! Do it!! And the sequel, Waking Gods is even better! Book three, Only Human comes out in May and I’m so excited!

10. Oldest book you’ve read? (Publication date)

Probably the Iliad. It’s over 2,000 years old! But I don’t know if that counts as a book since really its an epic poem. Same for the Shakespearean plays I’ve read since they aren’t originally books.

So, the oldest novel I’ve read is probably Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It was originally published on January 28, 1813

11. Newest book you’ve read? (Publication date)

Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi. It came out last month and it was a horrible disappointment. But, moving on.

12. Favorite author?

I have so many!!! Leigh Bardugo is definitely at the top of my list! Also Marissa Meyer, Laini Taylor, Tahereh Mafi and Maggie Stiefvater. And you know what? I’ve met them all and they are awesome!

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

Image result for porque no los dos gif

For those who don’t speak Spanish, that adorable little girl is saying “why not both”

But anyway, I like doing both things. Sometimes I’ll borrow one from the library and will go buy it after I’m done if I really, really liked it.

I love owning all my books but contrary to what the outside, non-reader world may think, books ain’t cheap. If I can borrow it for free then I’m all for it.

14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

The Fault in Our Stars by Jonh Green

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Bookmarks of course! What am I? An animal?

Civilized people don’t hurt books in such a way! Anyone who dog-ears their pages needs some serious help. I get sad every time I see library books with dogeared pages. Like, how dare you.

But all that dramatic stuff aside, I don’t care if other people do it to their own books. But if you do it to one of mine we can’t be friends.

16. A book you can always reread?

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

I know I’ve mentioned it a lot, but I like reading Twilight and I’m proud! This was my go-to book when I was in a reading slump. I would read Twilight and then I would suddenly love reading again. A close second is The Crown of Embers by Rae Carson. I love this book! It’s soooo good! The characters are absolutely golden! And the romance?

17. Can you read while hearing music?

No. And people who can are magic. I can read while the TV is playing though. I once read a book in the middle of a really loud family get together. They were all watching a boxing match and talking and laughing and playing music and I was in a little corner reading my book. #nerdlife

18. One POV or multiple POV’s? (POV’s = Point of views)

I’m down for multiple, so long as they serve a purpose. If both POV’s look and sound the same, to the point that I forget halfway through who’s I’m reading, then there’s a problem. Otherwise, go for as many as you like!

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

In one sitting, if possible. It’s like watching a movie. Do you pause a movie every twenty minutes and tell yourself you’ll watch another twenty tomorrow? Of course, life happens and you can’t always read in one sitting but I usually try to read as much as possible in one go. I once read Winter by Marissa Meyer, an 800+ page book in one sitting. After that, anything is possible.

20. A book you’ve read because of the cover?

Honestly, so many. I judge so many books by their covers. This usually leads to many disappointments. One of which was Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headly. Look at that beautiful cover! It’s so nice! The book, on the other hand, was not nearly as interesting. Same goes for Splintered by A.G. Howard. I had such high hopes! That’ll teach me to judge books by their appearances!

  1. Thanks for the tag! That was fun to read. I like what you said about Twilight. I’ve always be a fan of reading but my little sister hasnt. I personat don’t like the series but I do have an appreciation for it because it got her into reading.

    1. You’re welcome! Twilight has been the book that got a lot of people into reading. Just how Harry Potter got a lot of kids reading so I guess that why people still appreciate it despite its many, many flaws. I’m glad it got her into reading too!

  2. I think this is one of the first times I’ve heard someone say anything negative about The Fault in our Stars. I must admit that I still haven’t gotten around to reading it, and don’t know that I will. I tend to avoid sad books for the most part.

    Thanks for tagging me!

    1. Everyone I know in real life has some sort of problem with that book lol. It’s not necessarily a bad novel though, I just am not too much a fan of the characters or the writing styles. I recommend the movie though if you haven’t seen it. I actually really liked it!

  3. Hi Angelica! Thanks for the tag, and I enjoyed reading your answers! I actually did this book tag not so long ago, in my March wrap up. If you wanna check it out, here’s the link:
Also, I had to LOL at your reading mid-fam get together. I had a similar experience, and my brother (in a mock intercom voice) called me to dinner with “Nerd, party of one? Nerd, party of one.” 🙈😂

  4. 7 books is a good call but i feel like every series goes on foreverrrrr now??? like just shorten it up, guys. not everything needs more than 5 books to be told.

also lol @ the fault in our stars, i’ve never read life & death but it sounds like it rivals TFIOS for being generally terrible

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yeah some books definitely need to end sooner. But seven is totally where I draw the line.

And as much as I dislike TFIOS and as much as joke about that, Life and Death is on a new level of bad. Like, I was cringing all the way through. I couldn’t even read the full second half and had to skim. Heed my warning! Don’t read it!! It’s probably one of the worst books I’ve ever read in all my life and I wouldn’t wish on anyone!

    1. Thanks! And that’s definitely an accomplishment I want written on my grave! It’s the longest book I’ve read in one go. The reason I read it so fast was because I preordered it and it got to my house a day before it’s actual release date and I wanted to read it before everyone else lol

  5. So… You totally hate ‘Twilight,’ right? Hahaha. I never really got into it (tried to read the first book, but didn’t like it), but Cris also loved it back in the day. I think that reading is supposed to be fun, and as long as you’re aware of its flaws, hey, read it as much as you want to! We don’t have to read high quality novels with great messages all the time if that’s not our thing 🙂

    1. Totally agree with what you said! Every once in a while you have to read a book like Twilight and have fun with it. It can’t all be classics all the time, no matter how much I may like some classics. And I honestly think that if I’d read Twilight now and not in like the 8th grade then I would probably completely hate it. But it just holds such a special place in my heart that I can’t help but like it!

      1. Yeah, the same happens to me with some books hahaha. I can recognise their problematic aspects and would probably think they’re shit if I read them now for the first time, but they bring back good memories and I enjoy them, and that’s ok!

  6. I love your comparison of reading a book in one sitting to watching a movie! It’s EXACTLY my feeling too! I mean, I just don’t understand how someone can pause on a book when they don’t with movies…? But each to their own course. 😉

Awesome tag! Had a blast reading all your answers!!

    1. Thanks you! And I love that you see it the way I do! I have a cousin who would only read like 5 chapters at a time and that drive me crazy! It’s like watching 5 minutes of a movie every day! But I guess if that works for her then she can do it. Like you said, to each their own!

  7. 😂😂 I can read while listening to music, especially orchestral music. I think it’s magic you can do that in a group of noisy people!! Then again, I have misophonia, and people’s voices depending on volume and sharpness, can trigger rage. Crowds and I do not mesh….It means I also have euphonia too, though, and certain sounds trigger a tranquilising effect. The responses are physiological rather than psychological, because why not :/
